Course Information
Description In-depth study and applications of polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations using matrices. Additional topics such as sequences, series, probability, and conics may be included.
Prerequisites Successful completion of MATH 0332 or satisfactory score on approved test.
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

1. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of properties of functions, including domain and range, operations, compositions, and inverses. (PSLO 1, 3, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework labs as well as pretest and post-test.

2. Recognize and apply polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions and solve related equations. (PSLO 1, 3, ALPHA) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework labs and pretest and post-test.

3. Apply graphing techniques. (PSLO 3) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, or homework labs.

4. Evaluate all roots of higher degree polynomial and rational functions. (PSLO 1, 2,3) Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes, homework labs and group discussion.

5. Recognize, solve and apply systems of linear equations using matrices. (PSLO 3)Measured by embedded questions in tests, quizzes or homework labs.
Core Objectives PSLO ALPHA: Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material.
Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading.

PSLO 1: Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions.

PSLO 2: Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

PSLO 3: Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies Blackboard:
All relevant information about this course will be communicated to you using your LSCPA email and via Blackboard. You should check your email daily, and regularly log in to Blackboard to check for any announcements you may have missed. Students should only use their LSCPA email for this course; any communications from personal email accounts will be ignored.

Homework:
All homework will be done online using MyLabMath. You need to log in and get started as soon as possible, instructions for how to do so are on Blackboard. All homework assignments should be completed by the end of the semester, and the homework average will count as 20 % of your final grade.

Exams:
There will be a total of 4 mid-term chapter exams. Each exam will count as 15% of your final grade. Please refer to the course schedule on Blackboard for dates and times of exam availability.

Written Assignments:
There will be written assignments posted on Blackboard, each due on the day of the chapter exams. The average of your scores on these assignments will count as 10% of your final grade.

Participation:
Each class meeting will start with students presenting solutions to selected problems on the whiteboard. You are expected to be in class on time, and willing to present and explain your work to the class. Your participation will count as 10% of your final grade.
Attendance Policy Students are expected to be present and ON TIME for all class meetings, therefore attendance will be recorded at the beginning of each class meeting through the use of a seating chart established by the end of the first week.

In addition to being present and on time for class, you are expected to be prepared and up to date in the material, remain for the entirety of each class meeting, and to be actively engaged in the daily activities and discussions.

Students not present at the beginning of class will be counted absent for the day, NO EXCEPTIONS (tardy=absent). Students with 3-6 absences may forfeit some or all of their attendance grade, while students with more than 6 absences may be asked to drop the course (or receive an F).

Any behavior which is disruptive or disrespectful to either the instructor or students in this class will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in such behavior will be dealt with appropriately.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.
